Ian’s Blog 28th April 2024

While I was reading David Scott’s latest novel I was inspired to write a new song. It is based upon the trilogy largely featuring an alternative Torquay leading up to and during World War Two.

Rupert Tremaine what have you done

You killed Edna with a gun

A double agent you have become

Does your loyalty lie with no one

In an alternative universe

Churchill thought which is worse

The communist party NKVD

Or the Nazis SS in his country

Rupert Tremaine what have you done

You killed Edna with a gun

A double agent you have become

Does your loyalty lie with no one

In an alternative universe

King Edward thought which is worse

Royal engagements to attend

Or tedious paperwork with no end

With Edward back on the throne

To Canada King George has flown

Rupert Tremaine what have you done

You killed Edna with a gun

A double agent you have become

Does your loyalty lie with no one

In an alternative universe

You should hear Wallis Simpson curse

In the palace it’s a boring day

Outside the weather is cold and grey

Rupert Tremaine what have you done

You killed Edna with a gun

A double agent you have become

Does your loyalty lie with no one

Ian’s Blog 17th March 2024

This week I had a zoom interview with the editor of the Ricardian Bulletin about my Ricardian life. It reminded me of the first time that I visited Middleham castle in the early 1990s and the novel about Richard III that I looked at in the English Heritage shop. I didn’t buy the book then but I wish I had. I could still remember the first paragraph that I read briefly in that book even though I didn’t buy it at the time. I wonder why it stuck in my memory even though I can’t remember the first paragraph of any books I have read recently? When I eventually got around to buying the book about twenty years later I wasn’t sure if it was the one that I saw in Middleham until I read the first paragraph about Richard being lost in a forest and being scared as the daylight faded into night. The book is called The Sunne In Splendour by Sharon Kay Penman.
