Ian’s Blog 5th May 2024

I have been feeling quite sad ever since our cat died last month. She was nearly 19 years old and we had her as a kitten. We brought her home from our holiday in North Wales on a farm near Criccieth. She was the runt of the litter and she used to visit the holiday cottage where we were staying. Just as we were about to leave the farm to return to Torquay my wife told the landlady that she would probably have difficulty dragging our son away from the kittens. The lady said that we could have one. My wife called the kitten Cariad which is Welsh for sweetheart. I have started to record a song about saying goodbye to Cariad. Every time I tried to record my vocals I seemed to get a lump in my throat and tears would well up in my eyes.

Oh our sweetheart Cariad

The goodbye was so sad

And oh how I really can’t deny

The parting made me cry

You were so beautiful

You gave us so much joy

Oh our sweetheart Cariad

The goodbye was so sad

And oh how I really can’t deny

The parting made me cry

You slipped away peacefully

On that unhappy day

Oh our sweetheart Cariad

The goodbye was so sad

And oh how I really can’t deny

The parting made me cry

As I try to sing this song

There are tears in my eyes

Oh our sweetheart Cariad

The goodbye was so sad

And oh how I really can’t deny

The parting made me cry

Our sweetheart Cariad
