Aldora Britain Records has recently released Young River Poet Vol. X: A 50-Song Collection From Around The World In Support of 4 Year old Loxley Johnson's Fight Against Cancer by Various Artists.
This is the 10th release in the 'Young River Poet' series. These collections of music raise money for Loxley Johnson and his family, a 4 year-old Canadian boy who has tragically been diagnosed with cancer. He is now facing at least two years of chemotherapy.
Loxley is the son of Jo Johnson, a singer-songwriter, member of the River Poets, and an active member of the global music community. The money raised by Aldora Britain Records will help ease the Johnsons' financial stress at this time, whether that be additional treatment for Loxley or to cover the costs of becoming fulltime caregivers throughout this period.
If you are reading this, then please do buy this collection of music for £10 or more.
The album includes my song called ‘All That For Nothing’ which is track number 48 on the album. Dave Clifford helped me with the recording of the song. My song was composed after reading about the grandfather of my friend Graham Moores. His grandfather was in the army during the First World War but was lucky not to be involved in any fighting. He spent most of his time during this period in India and then he was also in Siberia helping the White Russians against the Bolsheviks. He ended up travelling around the world to get back home to England when the war had ended. He wrote that it was all for nothing really. I guess he felt that his contribution to the war effort was a bit of a waste of time. I hope that Graham will help me to record another version of my song for our Five Boys First World War project.

Two of my songs were included on the Strummers & Dreamers 611 Fresh from the Archives radio show on Cambridge Radio on the 1st September. You can hear my songs at about 1 hour into the radio show. The Parson and Clerk song was composed with Martyn Hillstead and you can hear Bridgit England singing with me on this tune. The other song of mine that was featured is about Philippa Langley and her Ricardian research. I can honestly say that it is because of Philippa that I have had the inspiration to record my Ricardian songs.

Although Lord Zarquon has been very busy recording his next album he has been able to find enough spare time to finish one of my science fiction themed songs. This song is called The Shadow Out of Time and is based upon the science fiction story of the same name written by HP Lovecraft. This story was first published in the mid 1930’s in the pulp magazine Astounding Stories. I am aiming to release a science fiction/astronomy themed album at some stage in the future.

On Thursday evening I played the guitar and sang with Elaine at the Old Commercial in Bishopsteignton where there is a Red Rock acoustic music evening. I sang the lead vocal on our song about the annual scarecrow competition which is in Babbacombe and St Marychurch. Elaine sang with me on the chorus. Elaine sang the lead vocal on a song called Town After Town and the Beatles song Ticket to Ride. The Town After Town song was composed in 1987/1988 when I played in a band called The Morrisons. I composed the music and the lead singer of the band composed the lyrics. We attend the Thursday Red Rock acoustic music evenings once or twice a month. We alternate this with sequence dancing lessons which are also on Thursday evenings.

We arrived back home in Torquay yesterday evening after our holiday in Yorkshire. We stayed in a small village called Lofthouse. On Monday we visited Rippon and it was interesting to see the tomb of the third Sir Thomas Markenfield who fought for Richard III at the battle of Bosworth. There is a connection to the Markenfield family ( who were based at Markenfield Hall near Rippon ) and the Coldridge investigation. This is in respect of the research about the tomb of John Evans and the Edward V stained glass window in Coldridge. Prior to John Evans being granted a considerable estate in Coldridge this had been given to Robert Markenfield by Richard III in 1484. Robert was the brother of Sir Thomas Markenfield.

Today is the anniversary of when Plymouth in Devon was bombed by the German Luftwaffe for the first time. This was on the 6th July 1940. The city was heavily bombed in further raids. The residents would leave the city in a daily exodus to camp out in the countryside to avoid the night time air raids. This is my song about this city during World War Two.

For the last couple of months I have been recording some songs based upon an unpublished book about five brothers who were involved in the First World War. Jay Brown came over to my house on Tuesday evening and I recorded him playing bass on three new songs which are about these brothers. The book contains letters written by the brothers which I am currently proofreading and I hope that my friend Graham Moores will be able to get the book published.
Jay helped with recording the songs for my Ricardian Argosy album that was recently released and here is a link to information about it on the really great Medieval Archives’ website

We had a rehearsal on Monday which went really well despite not having rehearsed for the previous two weeks. The previous rehearsal had been cancelled because Lord Zarquon had been ill with man flu.
On Friday we had tea and a nice meal in Exeter with Philippa Langley and John and Jo Dike. I was able to show Philippa the lovely stained glass window of Richard III which is in a hotel in Queen Street in Exeter. After the meal Philippa, John and Jo went to Waterstones for Philippa’s talk about her missing Princes research.
Yesterday we drove to Coldridge and took part in the dedication of the Edward V stained glass window event. We performed a selection of our Ricardian Songs with Lord Zarquon on his Memotron keyboards. Our set included the song about Philippa Langley which she enjoyed hearing at the event. After that we enjoyed listening to Philippa’s talk in the church about her missing Princes research. It was a really well organised event and it was nice to see that some of my Ricardian friends were there.

Here is a bit of a coincidence: John Wesley died on 2nd March 1791 and Horace Walpole died on 2nd March 1797. Both of them wrote about Richard III. John Wesley was a widely respected cleric, theologian and evangelist of the 18th century. He wrote a concise history of England in four volumes. In Volume 2, pages 27 to 65 cover the reigns of Henry VI, Edward IV and Edward V. Pages 66 to 152 are devoted to Richard III. However he used the text from Horace Walpole’s book about Richard III. On Wikipedia it mentions this:-
In spite of the proliferation of his literary output, Wesley was challenged for plagiarism, for borrowing heavily from an essay by Samuel Johnson, published in March 1775. Initially denying the charge, Wesley later apologised officially.
In this section of his book Horace Walpole defended the much maligned King in great detail and states that Richard was innocent of the many crimes that he had been accused of.
In short, that Henry’s character, as we have received it from his own apologists, is so much worse and hateful than Richard’s, that we may well believe Henry invented and propagated by far the greater slander against Richard : that Henry, not Richard, put to death the true duke of York, as he did the earl of Warwick : and that we are not certain whether Edward the Fifth was murdered; nor, if he was, by whose order he was murdered.

My friend Jay Brown is coming over to my house next week so that I can record him playing bass on some of my new songs. One of the songs is about the search for another planet in our Solar system.
Will we ever find
That elusive planet nine
Will our theories unwind
If planet nine we cannot find
In the realm beyond Neptune
We really hope to find it soon
The Kuiper Belt shows something strange
So our understanding must change
Will we ever find
That elusive planet nine
Will our theories unwind
If planet nine we cannot find
Perhaps Sedna gives us a clue
A glimpse of knowledge that is new
With an orbit so far from the Sun
A mysterious puzzle has been spun
So the search goes on for planet nine
The tilt of strange orbits is a sign
That planet nine must be real
Or what might a new theory reveal
Will we ever find
That elusive planet nine
Will our theories unwind
If planet nine we cannot find
That elusive planet nine
